"In heart failure, the heart loses its ability to efficiently pump blood. It is most often caused by a heart attack, which destroys some of the muscle tissue essential to a normal heartbeat.
In this new study, patients were injected with adult stem cells taken from their own hearts. These are a special kind of undifferentiated cell found throughout the body that helps to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found.

Doctors use a measure called 'ejection fraction' to describe the heart's ability to pump blood. Study author Dr. Roberto Bolli of the University of Louisville says people in the control group showed no significant improvement in that measure. But he called the improvement in the stem cell patients "striking."

I hope that more parents will take the time to get educated and aware that this is available to them and could TRULY BE A LIFE-SAVING DECISION. My children's lives are PRICELESS and my wife and I feel this was two of the best decisions we ever made for our kids, banking both of their cord blood at birth.

27 US States have Cord Blood Education Laws
Parent's Guide to Cord Blood - Educating parents with accurate and current information on umbilical.
Within the past month, Florida and Missouri have both passed state laws to educate expectant parents about cord blood banking, plus they have both adopted educational materials developed by this Foundation. This brings the total number of states with cord blood education bills to 27, covering 81% of US births. Of those, 4 states only require education about cord blood donation, while 23 states follow the federal Institute of Medicine guidelines that call for parent education about all options for their child's cord blood. Parent's Guide to Cord Blood Foundation has been adopted as an educational resource by the Dept. of Health in 5 states: FL, OH, MO, ND, and VA. This policy enables each DoH to rely on a resource that is already approved by a panel of leading scientific and medical experts, is consistent across the US, and is provided in several languages.
This is absolutely GREAT PROGRESS and a sign of things to come!!!
