Stem Cell Treatment Boosts Heart Function

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/health/Stem-Cell-Treatment-Boosts-Heart-Function-134113798.html

"In heart failure, the heart loses its ability to efficiently pump blood. It is most often caused by a heart attack, which destroys some of the muscle tissue essential to a normal heartbeat.

In this new study, patients were injected with adult stem cells taken from their own hearts. These are a special kind of undifferentiated cell found throughout the body that helps to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found.

Doctors use a measure called 'ejection fraction' to describe the heart's ability to pump blood. Study author Dr. Roberto Bolli of the University of Louisville says people in the control group showed no significant improvement in that measure. But he called the improvement in the stem cell patients "striking."

STRIKING IMPROVEMENTS MADE!!! I wonder what will be the next medical hurdle stem cells will jump??

Cord blood used to treat two local Leukemia patients

HealthWatch: Cord blood used to treat two local Leukemia patients

“When they sat down with the parents and said with the stem cell transplant we have about a 70 percent chance of long term survival as it was in 2006 we have about a 40 percent chance and the parents played the odds, ” says Pediatric Oncologist, Dr. Arthur Provisor.

More and more people are choosing to store their baby's cord blood because of the success stories like these tow brave children. I hope that more parents will take the time to get educated and aware that this is available to them and could TRULY BE A LIFE-SAVING DECISION. My children's lives are PRICELESS and my wife and I feel this was two of the best decisions we ever made for our kids, banking both of their cord blood at birth.

More Umbilical Cord Blood Wonders

http://www.healthmedicinemedical.com/2011/more-umbilical-cord-blood-wonders.html

"They have found that if a baby receives treatment by umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation while they are asymptomatic, they will have a much higher chance of surviving this disease than a child who is already symptomatic. They key to treating this disease is to catch it in its earliest stages before there is any critical brain function loss."

Cord blood stem cells are doing wonders and are becoming increasingly popular as a choice for treatments and therapies. I urge ALL PARENTS to research cord blood banking. If you bank privately, your child has a 100% match waiting for them should the need arise and siblings have higher chances of being matches to another sibling versus finding a match on a public registry. 27 US States have Cord Blood Education Laws

Parent's Guide to Cord Blood - Educating parents with accurate and current information on umbilical.

Within the past month, Florida and Missouri have both passed state laws to educate expectant parents about cord blood banking, plus they have both adopted educational materials developed by this Foundation. This brings the total number of states with cord blood education bills to 27, covering 81% of US births. Of those, 4 states only require education about cord blood donation, while 23 states follow the federal Institute of Medicine guidelines that call for parent education about all options for their child's cord blood. Parent's Guide to Cord Blood Foundation has been adopted as an educational resource by the Dept. of Health in 5 states: FL, OH, MO, ND, and VA. This policy enables each DoH to rely on a resource that is already approved by a panel of leading scientific and medical experts, is consistent across the US, and is provided in several languages.

This is absolutely GREAT PROGRESS and a sign of things to come!!!

What Do You Know About Cord Blood Banking?

http://www.askdrmanny.com/july-is-cord-blood-awareness-month/

Dr. Manny goes into some of the concerns and misconceptions about umbilical cord blood collection. Many expecting parents do not have enough educational material available to them to make an informed decision based on all the facts. Research all the facts before deciding whether or not to privately bank your baby's cord blood. I think a LOT MORE parents would choose YES if presented with all aspects of how cord blood banking has life saving potential for their child.
